OCA 51s + (12-Hour) Pittman Proposal
Hello all. OCA is continually receiving feedback on current operations and we attempt to make best use of that information to improve our structures and work environment. Recently we’ve received more frequent feedback that a 12-hour based scheduling option with no 24-hour shifts should be implemented in addition to our existing configuration at OCA. A variety of reasons have underlined these requests, ranging from overall balance with outside activities to fatigue and burnout. We recognize these very real factors and the benefits of more flexible opportunities for current and future providers at OCA.
While we take the ability to offer competitive and flexible scheduling options very seriously, we also must maintain a state of operational readiness and ensure our schedule helps the organization meet those requirements.
With that in mind, we are proposing the addition of 12 x (12-Hour) Pittman Rotation (think OCA dispatch schedule or what is known as 2-2-3) positions added to our current 51s scheduling configuration. If adopted this would lead to the following changes:
Both the 51s and Pittman are considered full-time and would qualify providers in those slots for company-sponsored benefits.
32 full-time field-provider positions vs 30 currently
20 providers assigned to 51s schedules (vs 30 currently)
12 providers assigned to 12-Hour Pittman rotations (8 x night or rotating day/night) and 4 x day
51s schedules would start at 7 or 8
Pittman schedules would start at 0600 or 1800
**If fully staffed** field 5 x daytime cars and 4 x night cars 7 days a week (current 51s is designed to provide 6 x day/4 x night)
51s schedule is 51 avg hours/week or 2652 hours of work annually
Pittman (12-Hour) schedule is 42 avg hours/week or 2184 hours of work annually
The 51s schedule has set days each week.
The Pittman (2-2-3) rotation has every other weekend off.
IMportant Considerations
OCA needs a significant number of providers willing to transition in order to affect this change.
If upon receiving survey results, there are sufficient numbers of providers interested in transitioning, OCA will move quickly to implement the update. Target 30 days.
If insufficient numbers of providers have interest in transitioning to the Pittman rotation, OCA may be forced to delay implementing any change until conditions and the available provider pool create a more advantageous situation.
Understanding Your Personal Financial Impact
A 12-hour Pittman schedule IS NOT a reduction in pay. Your annual salary will remain commensurate with the hours you work throughout the year. The Pittman schedule is 468 less hours worked annually than the 51s. While that has an impact on year-end salary, it is the trade off for having more time away from work.
Use the calculator below to estimate the difference in annual salary between the Pittman and 51s schedule. For an apples-to-apples comparison use your current hourly wage. Read these important notes:
If you are unsure of your hourly wage, it can be located in the OCA IPS iSolved System or provided by Human Resources upon request.
Estimated annual salaries in the calculator below reflect pre-tax and pre-deferral (401k, Health Benefit, FSA, etc.) cash compensation from the minimum scheduled hours for each position type only and DO NOT show unscheduled overtime, blended rate increases, special event pay, the value of your benefits, nor expected take-home pay after taxes. Benefit value typically ranges from $8,000-$25,000 annually based on age, mix of benefit adoption, and your current level/grade.
